Senate Republicans refused to approve state aid even though nearly every respected economist acknowledges that it is critical to the overarching purpose of Obama's plan -- stimulating the economy -- because it will prevent state governments from slashing jobs and deepening the recession.
As AMERICAblog's Joe Sudbay rightly quips: "[T]he GOP Senators showed their true intentions on Wednesday night when 36 of them voted to remove ALL spending from the stimulus. No stimulus spending when the economy is collapsing. That's the real GOP plan.
